Another Successful Achievement for the Iranian Graphic Design
by Mostafa Assadollahi, President of IGDS

Morteza Momayez, president of IGDS (1997-2003) and the renowned pioneer of graphic design in Iran received the Art & Culture Award of Excellency from the president of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Looking at the history of graphic design in Iran in the past five decades reveals that Morteza Momayez has had a spectacular presence in every one of the related events. With untiring efforts he determined the caliber and dimensions of Iranian graphic design according to modern day needs of the Iranian society and like a spark of light in darkness disclosed its corners and angles. He defined and compiled the theoretical limits of graphic design to build the foundation of an academic major in universities and by teaching it he trained many students for the Iranian art society. Finally, he initiated the establishment of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) to bring respect and dignity for those who endeavor in this profession.

He introduced the Iranian public to graphic design through holding exhibitions and biennials and by participation in foreign exhibitions and international biennials in Iran. Momayez introduced the Iranian graphic design to the world. The rightful receipt of the Art and Culture Award of Excellency not only for Morteza Momayez but also for the Iranian graphic design which he brought into existence is a great achievement and has yielded a sense of glory for admirers of art and culture in Iran.
As he writes himself: "I am happy now to receive this award as a token of glory and pride for the profession of graphic design and for my colleagues whether those who were active before me or those who will continue with this art and my present colleagues and students of this major who will later on join the graphic designers of Iran."
