National award of Art and Culture for Mohammad Ehsai

Mohammad Ehsai, graphic designer, calligrapher, honorary member of Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS) and member of the board of IGDS (1997-2000) received the National Award (First-degree medal) of Art and Culture from the president on July 14, 2005. This is the second occasion whereby graphic designers have won this honor for themselves, their profession and the community of graphic designers.

Mohammad Ehsai was born in 1939 and since 1958 he has been teaching. He began his first experience of calligraphy usage in graphic design and painting in 1964. For ten years he was the graphic designer and author of art books in the Course-Books Organization. He strated teaching in the Faculty of Fine Art, University of Tehran since 1979. He has written several articles on calligraphy, Iranian and Islamic arts and has given numerous lectures in Iran and abroad. His outstanding works on calligraphy have been displayed in the most important places in the world. Since 2003, he has become a member of the Academy of Art. Recently, he has also been selected the honorary member of the Iranian Graphic Designers Society (IGDS).

About art of calligraphy he says: Throughout the years calligraphy has been considered in Iran as a national and noble art. And in the Islamic world, as it is only way of illustrating the heavenly verses-among the experts and artists it is scrutinized and accepted to be the “heavenly art”.
